RICHARD JOHN SCHULTZ

Richard John Schultz, 100, of Alpena, passed away on March 18, 2024, at Besser Senior Living Community.

Richard was born Oct. 5, 1923, in Alpena, to the late Bernard and Marie (Piaskowski) Schultz. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On July 15, 1950, he married Betty Cole. She preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2002. Richard worked at Huron Portland Cement for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and Alpena V.F.W. Post 2496. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards.

Surviving are his seven children, Mary (Derek) D’Anna, Susan (James) Modrak, Michael Schultz, Richard ‘Rick’ Schultz II, Lori (Marshall) Anderson, David Schultz, Jane (Bill Mize) Schultz; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his grandson, Cody Anderson; great-granddaughter, Nala Elder; four siblings, Virginia VanDusen, Sally York, Bernard Schultz, and Dennis Schultz.

Visitation will take place Friday at Bannan Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m. with military honors accorded him at 5 p.m. by Alpena V.F.W. Post 2496. Visitation will continue there Saturday from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
