EUGENE STEPHEN HORNYAK

Eugene Stephen Hornyak, 85, of Alpena passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at Medilodge of Alpena.

Eugene was born Nov. 10, 1938, in Dearborn, Michigan to the late Edward and Catheryn (Jurmanovich) Hornyak. He served in the United States Army. Eugene earned a Master’s degree and taught over 40-plus years for Alpena Public Schools. He was involved in local politics and ran as a mayoral candidate. Eugene will be remembered for his generosity, wisdom, witty sense of humor, and dedication to his family. He had a love for fly fishing, camping, and was an avid outdoorsman.

Surviving are his daughter, Laura Gohl; son, Eugene Hornyak (Darby Wikaryasz); grandchildren, Eric and Colin Gohl; brother, Jimmy (Lynn) Hornyak; and friend, Reggie Vought.

Eugene was preceded in death by daughter, Lisa Hornyak and several siblings.

Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
