SARAH JO ROSS

Sarah Jo Ross, 57, of Alpena passed away on Feb. 3, 2024, at Corewell Health Care Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Sarah Jo Hayka was born in Alpena on Feb. 14, 1966, to Robert and Ilene (Hodgins) Hayka. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1984 and later with her associate degree from Davenport College in Grand Rapids in Computer Information Systems. On Feb. 3, 1990, she married William Ross at the Long Rapids Congregational Church. Sarah worked at MyMichigan Hospital – Alpena for over 35 years in the laboratory department. She was active in the 4-H youth program and the Girl Scouts for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; loving caring mother to Brittni (Ethan) Faber, Nicole (Will) Hatfield, Ty (Brook) Ross; proud grandmother of, Theoden Faber, and Hartley Hatfield. Sarah is also survived by her mother, Ilene Hayka; siblings, Robert (Jean) Hayka, Douglas (Joyce) Hayka, James (Linda) Hayka, Sally (Greg) Nesmith, John (Dana) Hayka, Edwin Hayka; sister-in-law, Diane Hayka; several nieces and nephews.

Sarah was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hayka in 2013; and a brother, Jerry in 2014.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4 p.m. with the the Rev. Arnie Kirschner officiating.

Interment: Long Rapids Cemetery
