Janet E. Spigelmyre, 82, of Spruce, peacefully passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2024 surrounded by her friends and family.

Born July 6, 1941 to Earl and Emma L. (McCall) Pierce in Spruce, she has been a lifelong resident of the area. Janet was known for her strong faith, and was an active member of the Spruce Presbyterian Church. She worked as a secretary for Besser, Huron Portland Cement Co., and Fletcher Paper. She was an avid birdwatcher, and enjoyed tending to her flower garden. She was a fiercely independent woman, and enjoyed time with her family. She was especially proud of her grandson, Sean. Janet spent time volunteering with the food pantry and the womens’ shelter. She loved the beach and spending time near the water also taking Sunday afternoon drives in the countryside.

Janet is survived by Don and Julie Spigelmyre, her beloved grandson, Sean Spigelmyre, her sister, JoAnn (Don) Zelk, and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that were her world, as well as many friends. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Earlene Rea, Patricia “Pat” (Alfred) Eller, and Mary McInerney, and four brothers, Richard “Dick” Pierce, William “Bill” Pierce, Jack Pierce, and Earl (Daisy) Pierce.

Family will gather at Spruce Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024 from 12:30 p.m. until the public visitation at 1 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. The Rev. Karen Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to Spruce Presbyterian Church.
