LORETTA ROSE WALLACE
LORETTA ROSE WALLACE
Sept. 22, 1924 – Jan. 29, 2024
Loretta Rose Wallace, a beacon of light and love, passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2024, at the age of 99, in her hometown of Alpena, the same place where her story began on Sept. 22, 1924. Born to the late Oliver and Victoria (Kierst) LaBarge, Loretta’s life was a testament to the power of joy, family, and resilience.
Loretta was the cherished matriarch of a family that saw her as the embodiment of love and selflessness. Her devotion to her children, Gary (Gayle) Wallace, Tim Wallace, Pam (Steve) Sample, and Brenda (Al) Bradbury, was unparalleled. She was a guiding star to her grandchildren, Scott Wallace (Michelle Hawkins), James (Marjorie) Wallace, Ricky LeFave, Dee Dee Jurgensmeyer, Wayne Wallace (Hidee), Stephanie Tadajewski (Steve Shea), Stacey (Bill) Helinski, Nathan (Callie) Bradbury, Breanne Bradbury, and Kayla Bradbury. Her legacy continued to expand through her eight great-grandchildren, with each new addition bringing her immense joy.
Loretta’s family circle extended to her daughter-in-law, Cathy Wallace, and numerous nieces and nephews who all held a special place in her heart. Her journey through life was shared with her beloved late husband, Delmar, and together, they navigated the bittersweet mix of laughter and loss, including the heartache of saying goodbye to their son, Tom, daughter, Connie, and Loretta’s sisters, Marjorie Matzke and Betty Mischley.
Loretta’s zest for life was evident to all who knew her. She had a knack for shopping, always on the hunt for a great bargain that she would excitedly share with her family and friends. Her love for sunshine and the beach was infectious, and many cherished memories were created with her family at their cottage, where laughter and the clinking of glasses toasting with a “cold one” echoed through the air. Those moments of togetherness were the ones she treasured most, as they reflected the warmth and radiance she brought into the world.
An active and committed member of her community, Loretta was proud to serve in the Disabled American Veterans and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Her service was a reflection of her generous spirit and her desire to contribute to the well-being of those around her.
Loretta is at McWilliams Funeral Home where family will receive friends on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Alpena Senior Center.
