LAWRENCE PARTICK KUNZE

Lawrence Patrick Kunze, 89, of Alpena passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, at Medilodge of Alpena.

Lawrence was born Sept. 15, 1934, in Alpena to the late Lewis and Alma (Lindsay) Kunze Jr. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Occupation of Germany and graduated from Michigan State University. He married Jane Pelleran on Aug. 11, 1962. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2015. In 1961 he started in the City of Alpena Police Department, obtaining the position of Chief in 1970 and retiring in 1990. In retirement, he sold real estate for Century 21. Lawrence was a member of All Saints, Alpena VFW Post 2496, and enjoyed woodworking and watching his grandchildren’s events. He also enjoyed duck hunting and Canadian fishing.

Surviving are his daughter, Jackie (Tim) Donajkowski; three grandchildren, Clay, Colin, Lindsay Donajkowski; brother, Lewis (Kathryn) Kunze; and several nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by two sisters, Bette LaLonde and Sally Kunze and by faithful K9 companion, Avery.

Visitation will take place Monday at St. Bernard Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at noon with the Rev. Aloysius Okpala officiating. Military honors will be accorded to him by Alpena VFW Post 2496. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
