Dr. Eugene Roger Moore, age 90, left for adventures in the hereafter during the early hours of Jan. 22, 2024. He was blessed to have both Granddaughters at his side.

Eugene resided in Midland. Born in Saginaw, he graduated from Bay City Junior College (Delta) and obtained a double degree in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the College of Mining and Technology (MTU). Eugene finalized his scholastic education at Case Institute of Technology (Case Western Reserve University) where he specialized in polymer science and graduated in 1962 with the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering. Eugene’s career includes 33 years at Dow (Midland) and nine years with SRI International and SRI Consulting (Menlo Park, Calif.). He also consulted in his field, founded the Chicken Cartilage (UC2 production) family business, and is currently the author/co-author of 53 issued US Patents and over 40 technical publications. Some of his most recent work resulted in a patent on a method for reversing Alzheimer’s disease, which is now in a clinical trial.

Eugene was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, was made a lifetime JC’s International Senator, and has been a Kiwassee Kiwanis club member for over 50 years. He applied carpentry skills participating in Habitat for Humanity projects in both Michigan and California. Eugene’s passion for fitness started in high school where he competed in track and participated in tumbling. In junior college, he swam competitively and has enjoyed skiing, boating, archery, karate, hunting and climbing Mt. Whitney but has been most involved in running. He has competed in numerous 10-kilometer races and has finished five marathons (including qualifying for and running in Boston in 1984). Eugene was committed to physical activity until the very end.

Eugene had a passion for science and for life. He shared it abundantly with family, friends, and his community. Eugene was preceded in death by: Loving Wife: Barbara Ann (Knutson) Moore, Sons: David Roger Moore and John Edward Moore, Daughter; Ann Marie Moore, Father: Eugene Moore, Mother: Ida (Bailey) Moore, Sister: Janet Clara (Moore) Wachner, Brother-in-law: Kenneth Wachner, Mother-in-law: Regina (Utecht) Knutson, Father-in-law: Clarence E. Knutson, Nephew: Theodore (Ted) Wachner, Niece: Susie Wachner.

Eugene is lovingly remembered by Daughter: Mary (William) Moore Padgett. Daughter-in-law: Anna Moore Chavez and Elizabeth Coviello Moore, Granddaughters: Madilyn and Brooklyn Moore. Cousins, Beth (Moore) and Brian Collison, Tom and Nancy Bailey, Nephew: Jim (Jennifer Nicole Bruno) Wachner. Grandnephews: Stephen, Jacob and Bradley Wachner. Mark and Dianne Jarmus, Paul Jarmus, Susan Jarmus, Lorraine (Utecht) Szymanski, Ron and Charolette Utecht, Karen (Adams) and Dr. Ken McKinnon, Mary Kay and Walter Ozanich, Dennis Sebenick, Anna Schnitzler, Mary Jane (Schnitzler) Gustin, and many other loving relatives.

The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11 a.m. Jan. 26, 2024, from the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Fr. Rob Howe will celebrate and the Rite of Committal will take place in New Calvary Cemetery. Eugene’s family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Liturgy.
