Donna Eileen Nevins, affectionately known as Sue to those who knew her best, passed away peacefully on Jan. 5, 2024, at the age of 88, in Lachine. She was born on July 28, 1935, in Alpena, to the late William and Edna (Fredrickson) O’Neil. Sue’s warmth, generosity, and selfless nature left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.

Sue was the cherished wife of the late Earl Nevins, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. She was a devoted mother to Randy (Donna) Nevins, Kurt (Carol) Nevins, Lori (Alan) Dickson, Don Nevins, Diane Edmonds, Margaret (Frank) Pickard, and the late Robert Nevins. Sue’s legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren–Rob, Ryan, Rachel, Alex, Alicia, Wayne, Whitney, Tina, Kyle, Brandon, Dylan, Brittany, Zack and Lindsey–as well as her treasured great-grandchildren, whose numbers reached nine.

Sue’s life was enriched by her siblings, James (Marilyn) O’Neil, Peter (Esther) O’Neil, and William O’Neil who will miss her dearly. Mourning her loss alongside them are close friends, Greg and Sue Pilarski and other extended family and friends, including numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Robert Nevins, her brother Robert O’Neil, her sisters Sharon Creach and Doris Lynn Burns, her son-in-law Milton Edmonds, sister-in-law Rita O’Neil, and brother-in-law Arthur Burns.

Throughout her life, Sue was a beacon of kindness and care in her community. She had a gift for making everyone feel loved and often seemed to have raised half the neighborhood. Her home was a place of solace and joy for many. Sue’s work history and involvement with various associations further demonstrated her commitment to service and community.

Sue’s interests were a reflection of her joyful spirit and love for life. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed her trips to the casino, and cherished going out to dinner with family and friends. A long-time member of Long Rapids Congregational Church, Sue’s faith was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and providing comfort and strength throughout her life.
