DAVID H. LaMAY

Nov. 14, 1948 – Dec. 26, 2023

David H. LaMay, 75, of Ossineke, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 26, 2023. Born on Nov. 14, 1948, in Alpena, Dave was the cherished son of the late Hilton and Aziel (Byers) LaMay. His warm presence and gentle spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Dave was preceded in death by his infant daughter Suzanne, a poignant loss that he carried with grace throughout his life, and his siblings, Elaine, Robert, Don, Fred, Leon, and Delores. Dave’s legacy of kindness is carried on by his devoted wife Judy, his loving daughter Adele LaMay, and his adored granddaughter Alison Borowski, who brought immeasurable joy to his later years, and his sister, Lucille Habermehl.

A proud veteran, Dave honorably served his country in the Navy Seabees unit MCB6 Company A from 1968 to 1970 during the Vietnam War. His time in the service was a testament to his strength and dedication, qualities that he continued to exhibit throughout his life. Following his military service, Dave applied his skills as a heavy equipment mechanic, a profession he excelled in for many years. His adept hands and keen understanding of machinery made him a respected figure in his field.

Dave’s passions extended beyond his work. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding solace and excitement in hunting and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to embrace the serenity of nature. Music was another source of joy for Dave; he had an abiding love for country tunes and the nostalgic melodies of “oldies” music. These simple pleasures were the backdrop to many happy memories with friends and family.

Dave was known for his strong personality but those who knew him knew his heart for others. He approached life with a quiet strength and a compassionate heart, always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

Family will receive friends at McWilliams Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of military honors at 3 p.m. accompanied by VFW Post #2496. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Michigan.
