Shirley I Knorr passed away early Sunday morning, Dec. 3rd, 2023, at MediLodge Alpena. She was 87.
Born in Atlanta, Michigan, on May 6, 1936, to Jess Bloom and Mildred Kent, she grew up on what was then a farm just outside Atlanta. When her mother passed away Shirley helped raise her younger siblings and care for her father. Although time and distance separated her from family, she kept in touch through letters and cards. Above all she cherished her children.
Shirley possessed a fiercely independent spirit. Time and again she defied expectations with a will that often surprised caregivers near the end of her life. She was lovingly known as a character during her time at MediLodge and will be missed by all who knew her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; all her siblings: Robert, Thelma, Tom, Jack, Richard, Gary (Tweed), Alice, Mary, and Betty; and daughter Robin Joy. She is survived by her son, Christopher (Oakland, California); daughter, Cheryl (Onaway, Michigan); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Following a small burial service in the spring, Shirley will be laid to rest at Briley Township cemetery in Atlanta. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
