NANCY ANN DOANE LARSEN

Nancy Ann Doane Larsen, 94, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023. Born in Atlanta, Michigan to Frank and Nora Doane on March 22, 1929. Nancy was the third of 4 children, all of whom preceded her in death; Rosemary (Edward) Bastow, William (Mary) Doane, and Frank Doane.

Nancy graduated Alpena High School and attended Marjorie Webster College in Washington, DC. She was a ward clerk at Alpena General Hospital for 11 years. She owned and operated Larsen’s Sport Outfitters before managing the Seifert’s fashion store, both in Alpena. She was a member of the Word of Life Church, active in the Women’s Missionary Circle and Sunday School. Nancy enjoyed sharing her laughter easily and warmly welcomed everyone in for a meal. Her humor endured to the end, making jokes with friends and caregivers. She solved problems in unusually creative ways, making art from beach glass, sewing and mending for her growing family. In later years, she enjoyed painting and drawing.

Nancy was married for 58 years to Lowell Larsen, who preceded her in death in 2006. They raised 6 children, Julie (Allen) Orlowski of Waunakee, WI, Peter (Shelly) Larsen of Holland, MI, Eric (Patty) Larsen of Alpena, Paul (Lisa) Larsen of Sault Ste Marie, ON, Mark (Diane) Larsen of Hubbard Lake, and Christopher (Katja) Larsen of Evansville, IN. She is survived by grandchildren Nick (Ann) Orlowski, Andy (Brittany) Orlowski, Jeff (Sarah) Orlowski, Kallie (Charles) Kirby, Brooke (David) Tofilon, Luke (Contessa) Larsen, Katlin Larsen, Diandra (Adam) Carter, Cami Larsen, Katie (Brandon) Garrow, Karl (Lauren) Larsen, Cary (Katie) Larsen, Andrea (Griffin) James, Nick (Jamie) Story, and John (Karina) Story. Nancy was especially proud of her 39 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Leslie Doane; several nieces and nephews, including Cynthia Larsen Aquino and Christie (Rick) Bastow.

Nancy was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Isaac Larsen.

Inurnment: Evergreen Cemetery

Donations in Nancy’s memory can be made to Word of Life Church in Alpena. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been made by Bannan Funeral Home.
