KENNETH KINDT

June 23, 1937 – Dec. 18, 2023

Kenneth Kindt, 86, of Alpena passed away at home on Dec. 18, 2023.

Ken was born June 23,1937 to Norman O. and Ethel M. (Marquardt) Kindt. He was raised on the Kindt family farm (now Rivers Edge Golf course) graduated from Alpena High in 1955 where he lettered in baseball and football. After graduating he proudly served in Marines and was stationed at Camp Pendleton for his entire enlistment. Upon returning home he went to work for Abitibi Corp. for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1999. He was one of the founding members of the Alpena Snowmobile Club and very active with The Thunderbay 250 snowmobile races while also serving on the Triple Crown Racing board.

On Nov. 6, 1981, he married Karen S. Hibner. Before, and especially after retirement, they spent many years camping and fishing together. He found Karen to be a rather unique woman, as she worked on cars and like building anything with wood. He told friends he married Karen because she did carpenter work and fit really good under the hood of his truck.

He is survived by his wife Karen, children Dave (Debbie) Kindt of Rapid City S.D., daughter Shelly (Joe) Erdman of Jennison, son-in-law Gary Brown of Belton, S.C. stepchildren Jennifer (Justin) Beltramo of Ortonville and Tom (Jenna) Edmonds of Davison, and sister Carol Bartz of Clinton Twp. Eleven grandchildren and 16 1/2 great-grandchildren.
