Joseph Luther Allen passed away peacefully on Dec. 13, 2023, at the age of 73, in Ossineke, after an extended illness.

Joe was born on Aug. 11, 1950, in Alpena, to the late Alfred and Leona (McKenzie) Allen. He served his country in the United States Navy for four years, including an overseas tour on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga during the Vietnam War. Upon finishing his service, Joe went to work at Besser Company in Alpena. He retired from Besser 32 years later and was known to be a hard worker and befriended many co-workers. Joe was polite and kind to people. He shared 19 wonderful years with his wife Karen. Joe was father to two sons, Jeff (Mandy) and Brian (Tammy), and grandfather to three grandchildren. He was also stepfather to Ruth Kingsbury-Szumila (Karl), Elizabeth Burpo (Dave) and Alan Quantz (Lynn), as well as ten step-grandchildren and one great-step-grandchild. Joe is survived by brothers Walter and David Allen, and sister Lillian Eackright as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His brothers Alonzo and Millard Allen preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his stepson Ken Quantz, and his sister-in-law, Betty.

Joe loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, sports, tinkering in his garage and helping neighbors.

Joe is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visiting hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Visiting will resume on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at noon with Pastor Joe Collins officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Michigan.
