Dennis Peterson

Dennis James Peterson, better known as Pete the Painter, was born on March 27, 1941, in Manhattan, New York, went to his eternal home with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Nov. 1, 2023, after a brave battle with cancer. He was a man of faith, humor, and love, who lived his life with dedication to his family, work, and community.

Pete was the son of the late James and Helen (Tribotti) Peterson. He was a proud graduate of Evander Childs High School in New York City, Class of 1960. Upon graduation, he answered the call of duty and served in the U.S. Air Force, which instilled a lifelong respect for discipline and service.

On Nov. 9, 1985, Pete married the love of his life, Dorothy Lancaster. Together, they built a beautiful family that includes their children Janene (Stephen) Lovelace, Kim Lancaster, and Stacey Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his children, Debra Hoeft and Ted Lancaster. Pete was also a doting grandfather to Kristina Pearce, Jonelle Lancaster, Emelia (Luke) Wagner, and Eli Lovelace, and took special joy in his great-grandchildren, Michael Alstrom and Xavier Lancaster. He was also the brother of Gerard Peterson, who preceded him in death.

Pete’s industrious nature led him to a variety of professional pursuits throughout his life. His career path included time spent at Universal Fluid Dynamics, Robbs Saw Mill, Al Waun Painting, and Clean Team. Eventually, he channeled his experience and passion into his own venture, Painting by Pete, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and his commitment to hard work.

A man of many interests, Pete was known for his fantastic sense of humor and his dedication to exercise. His faith was central to his life, and he was an active member of the Fresh Water Bible Church. His faith and his humor often went hand in hand, and he was known to bring laughter and joy into every room he entered.

Pete has continued his giving even in death by donating his body to medical science. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted with McWilliams Funeral Home.
