Bonnie Jean Howe, 87, of Alpena passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
Bonnie Jean Brandenburg was born in Alpena on Jan. 2, 1936, to the late Charles and Villa (Eagle) Brandenburg. On June 25, 1955, she married Glenn Howe, the love of her life. Bonnie graduated from Central Michigan University with a master's degree in teaching. She taught for Hillman Community Schools for 37 years. She started as a grade school teacher and moved to special education for 10 years, before her retirement in 1992. She was the director of the Area 3 Special Olympics. Bonnie enjoyed doing crafts and will be remembered for her cooking.
Surviving are her husband, Glenn; children, Karie Belko, Linda (Charles) Janeski, David (Christina) Howe; grandchildren, Justin (Kelsey) Janeski, Jeremy (Kelsey Hardy) Howe, Sara Belko, Hannah (Chris) Janeski, LeAnn (Eric Bauer) Howe; great-grandchildren, Liam Janeski, Lily Janeski (due March 2024); sisters, Maxine Patten, Mary Baur, Karen "Sue" (Bob Conner) Klein; and special niece Susan (Raymond) Schlak.
Mrs. Howe was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael; son-in-law, Joseph Belko; brother, Junior Brandenburg; sister, Donna Reed.
Visitation will take place on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, at the Bannan Funeral Home in Hillman from 2-8 p.m. and where the funeral service will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jon Gougeon officiating.
Interment: Hillman/Rust Township Cemetery
