William “Joe” VanVolkenburg, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home, on Oct. 11, 2023. Known as a generous, loving, and handy individual, Joe’s memory will forever be treasured by all who had the fortune of knowing him.
Joe was born on May 2, 1947, to the late James and Leona (Favel) VanVolkenburg. He grew up in a home filled with love and laughter. Joe was a treasured member of a large and close-knit family, which shaped him into the loving and selfless person he grew up to be.
Joe was the proud father of William Kinsey, James (Lorraine) Kinsey, Dwayne (Mary) Jameson, Eugene (Jodi) Jameson, Anthony VanVolkenburg, Erin (Keith) Felax, Marcee (Michael) Naylor, Claudia “Sue” Neville, and Alan (Elaine) Shepherd. He was preceded in death by his sons, James Neville, and Wendal Goodrich. His numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews were the recipients of his boundless love and affection.
Professionally, Joe was a skilled mechanic, a role that allowed him to blend his natural talent for problem-solving with his passion for helping others. Joe’s interests were as diverse as they were engaging. He was an outdoors enthusiast who found peace and joy in camping and fishing. He was an avid card player who loved the competitive spirit and camaraderie that came with a good game. As a mechanic at heart, he also enjoyed tinkering on various projects, always finding ways to improve or fix things. Above all, Joe cherished spending time with his family. His love for his family was evident in every shared meal, every get-together, and every quiet moment spent in their company.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home. Memorial donations can be made to the family to assist with final expenses. Inurnment: Hillman Rust Cemetery.
