Roy Kollien

Sept. 9, 1930 – Oct. 15, 2023

Roy Kollien, a longtime resident of the area, passed away peacefully at home in Ossineke on Oct. 15, 2023. Born on Sept. 9, 1930, to the late William and Louis (Brilinski) Kollien, Roy lived a fulfilling life filled with love, joy, and an unwavering faith. He was a kind, faith-filled, and gentle man who left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

Roy was a dedicated worker, serving as a foreman at the National Gypsum/LaFarge Corp. for many years before his retirement. His colleagues admired him for his commitment to his work and his calm and composed demeanor.

Roy had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending countless hours in nature’s embrace. His love for the outdoors was only matched by his love for traveling. Alongside his beloved wife Joyce, who preceded him in 1996, Roy visited all 50 states and several Canadian provinces. Their travels were filled with joy, discovery, and the creation of lasting memories. Roy also enjoyed playing cards with his sister Norma and Don MacKenzie.

Roy’s love for sports was evident in his unwavering support for the Detroit Tigers baseball team. But above all, Roy was a man of faith. His spiritual beliefs guided him throughout his life, providing him with strength, resilience, and a sense of purpose.

Family was at the heart of Roy’s life. He is survived by his sons, Lowell (Anna) Kollien, Kevin Kollien, and his sister, Norma MacKenzie. He was a proud grandfather to Jason (Lisa), Jonathan, Jesse (Sandi), Justin (Kayla), Sara (Mike) O’Kelly, and was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren. His sister in-law, Edith Kollien, also survives him. Roy’s love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a devoted father, a loving grandfather, and a caring brother.

One of Roy’s unique hobbies was feeding the wild turkeys. This simple act of kindness reflected his love for nature and his gentle spirit. His backyard was a haven for the local wildlife, and he took great joy in their visits.

Roy is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023 from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at noon with Pastor Marlon Smith officiating.
