Judy Christensen

Judy Christensen, 88, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and cousin, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at her home in Leer, Michigan.

Judy Elizabeth Hansen was born Aug. 11, 1935, to her late parents Irwin and Esther (Adams) Hansen in Detroit, Michigan. She married Guy Christensen on June 16, 1956, who preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1997.

Judy went to County Normal, Alpena Community College and Michigan State University. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Long Rapids. While devoting her life to caring for her family, she substituted and loved being "Grandma Judy" for Posen and Long Rapids area schools. She selflessly dedicated her life to caring for her husband, parents, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to bake bread, cook, and take meals to neighbors and friends. Judy also passed her deep faith in Jesus Christ along to her family. She was a faithful member of the Lachine Community of Christ Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as a pianist and organist for many years.

Judy is survived by six children: Arnold (Cheryl) Christensen, Jane (Noel) Hardies, Irving (Susanne) Christensen, Mary Beth (William) Hardies, Alison (Bradley) Woods, Chris (Eliza Beth) Christensen; 20 grandchildren: April (Don), Amber, Aaron (Ashley), Robert (Bonnie), Carl (Angela), Jon (Amanda), Jacob (Heather), Lisa (Matt), Bryan (Megan), Adam (Megan), Esther (Michael), Benjamin (Nikki), Andrew (Samantha), Anna, Erik, Katrina, Kalin, Caleb, Peter, Anton; 29 great-grandchildren and more to come: Kylie, Alison, Elijah, Addisen, Alivia, Ava, Isaac, Aubrey, Leah, Hayden, Molly, Zack, Lillian, Elliott, Amy, Evan, Sawyer, Alayna, Catherine, Jana, Sophia, Owen, Hunter, Maci, Conner, Eli, Westin, Casen, Soren; two sisters-in-law, Gail Hansen, Joyce Wirgau; many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by grandchildren: (William) Ethan Hardies, Heidi Elizabeth (Hardies) MacNeill, Josephine Grace Christensen; great-grandchild: Emily Hope Simonye and brother: Gene Hansen.

Memorial visitation will take place at Lachine Community of Christ Church (12990 Atkinson Road) on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, from 9 to 11 a.m. Followed by a worship service at 11 a.m. with Elder Kendell Sumerix officiating. Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.

Inurnment: Long Rapids Cemetery
