JANET DARLENE GROCHOWSKI
March 15, 1951 – Oct. 18, 2023
Janet Darlene Grochowski, 72, of Alpena, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023 after a heroic battle with Cancer. She was a kind, loving, and compassionate, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whom will be dearly missed. Janet was born on March 15, 1951 to the late Frederick and Irma (Udell) Manning in Alpena. She was a graduate of Alpena High School in 1969.
On Jan. 24, 1970 Janet married the love of her life, John Grochowski at First Baptist Church in Alpena. She worked as a Paraprofessional for Alpena Public Schools for over 20 years until her retirement in 2006. Many may remember her as Mrs. G from her time spent in the Campus Closet and the many hours she volunteered. Janet loved painting ceramics and was very successful at it. So much in fact she was inducted into the Michigan Ceramics Hall of Fame. Her other specialties were cake decorating/wedding planning, quilting, crocheting, and a master seamstress. Janet was the treasurer for the AHS Bike and Boot club and helped organize trips for several students and staff. She was the President of the Alpena Basketball Boosters Club. Janet was very involved with not only the school activities but also her children/grandchildren and their events. There were very few she missed
She is survived by her husband of 53 years John, her children, Stephanie (Tim) Couture, Eric (Jen) Grochowski, grandchildren, Sadie, Caden, and Mia Couture, Riley, Kenyson, and Kestyn Grochowski, a sister Irmagene (Bob) Schultz, her in-laws Tom, Bob (Carol) Grochowski, Deb (Mike) Wojda, Nancy (Scott) Oostindie, her uncle Jack (Delores) Manning, several nieces and nephews, lifelong friend Nancy (Bill) Mischley, and her very special pet Sasha.
A celebration of Janet’s life will take place at Huron Shores Christian Fellowship from 10 a.m. until noon Friday, Oct. 20, 2023 in the fellowship room with coffee and donuts. The memorial service will be at noon with Pastor Warren Hoffman officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to Pied Piper, Hospice of Michigan, or desired choice. Karpus Hunter and Ross Funeral Home has been entrusted with Janet’s arrangements.
