Edward (Ed) Xavier Grohowski, 94, passed away peacefully on Oct. 16, 2023, at his home in Holt, surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born on Dec. 2, 1928, in Rogers City, to the late Michael and Pelagia (Buza) Grohowski. On Jan. 18, 1950, he married Rita Rembowski in Alpena, where they continued to live and raise their family. Rita preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 2011.
Mr. Grohowski was a devout Catholic, lifelong member of Knights of Columbus, and he did voluntary work for years with his wife for the Christmas Wish program through ACC and St. Mary Church.
He was employed by Besser Co. for over 30 years. He built two homes and a cottage, and remodeled two homes, basically always having a second job during his working career. After retirement, he continued to share his skills and knowledge on many family projects. When he could no longer actively participate in the projects, he directed them! Even though he was always busy, he still made time for family and friend celebrations. He played as hard as he worked.
Family was a primary focus and joy in his life. He was blessed to have the opportunity for active engagement with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending many sporting and dancing events throughout his long life. He loved hunting and fishing, and his cottage on Grand Lake provided him and his family with many good times and fond memories. Ed and his wife loved dancing, their skill and finesse was admired by many. If there was a Dancing with the Stars in their category, they surely would have won.
Ed will be especially missed by family for his unconditional love, guidance, unending support, his vast experience, and understanding of life. For those who know Ed, his quick wit and humor will leave a void in everyone's life.
Surviving are his four children Janine (Danny) Zielaskowski, Cheryl Grohowski, Alan Grohowski, Paula Carigon; three grandchildren Jeremy Zielaskowski, Inga Zielaskowski, Brooke (Eric) Repke; three great-grandchildren Jasek Zielaskowski, Aleks Zielaskowski, Dylana Repke; sister, Virginia Conley; sister-in-law Patricia Grohowski; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his sister, Eleanor Wirgau; brothers Gerald Grohowski and James Grohowski.
Memorial visitation will be held at Bannan Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, from 2-8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Memorial visitation will continue at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Aloysius Okpala officiating.
