David B. Sterner Sr., 86, of Harrisville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Dave was born May 14, 1937 in Yonkers, New York to Dr. Burton and Margerite (Budd) Sterner Sr. He was raised in Staten Island, New York until joining the U.S. Air Force in 1957. Dave was then stationed in Oscoda, Michigan where he met and later married, Maxine Kudla on April 2, 1958. He took much pride in serving his country and worked for many years as a civil engineer at the Wurtsmith Air Force Base. He had a strong passion for farming his land, where he raised beef cattle, many crops, barn cats, and other animals. He enjoyed working on his vehicles and tractors and always helping his friends whenever he could. If Dave wasn't working on the farm you could almost always find him talking and laughing with his many friends. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and always made time to attend his kids' activities.
Dave is survived by his wife, Maxine, three children, Wayne (Mary Jane) Sterner, David Sterner Jr., and Kym England, four grandchildren, Mikala, Kara, Lindsey, and Natalie, and one great-grandchild, Hayes. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews and his cousin Sue Belden. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Burton Sterner Jr., and Thomas Sterner.
Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. A memorial service will be held later in Spring of 2024 on the farm for family and friends. This date will be announced at a later time. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Michigan or to the Alcona County Veterans.
