Daniel Rufus Spaulding, 46, of Alpena passed away Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at MyMichigan Medical Center – Alpena.
Danny was born in Saginaw on Aug. 4, 1977, to Thomas and Jean (Peters) Spaulding. He graduated from Alpena High School, Class of 2003. Danny loved life to the fullest, enjoying Lego sets, hats, Alexa, karaoke, Bogarts Tavern, anything Coca-Cola, Nick’s Diner, Bob’s Bullpen and had a love and respect for all law officers and fire personnel. Dan kept himself very busy with many jobs and volunteer projects around the Alpena area, including, being named the MyMichigan Medical Center – Alpena volunteer of the Month for August 2023, an emergency room volunteer, stuffing folders for the hospital, helping with dinner for the residence at the nursing home, Grace Lutheran’s food pantry, Taco Bell, washing dishes for JJ’s catering and dog setting for “Rosco”. Through Community Mental Health he was the State of Michigan’s first Peer Mentor. He was very close to his friends, Jon Benson, Patti Hartman, Donna Morgan and Maggie Dehring. One of his famous quotes, “You won’t find another one like me. God made only me.”
Surviving are his mother, Jean Spaulding; father, Thomas Spaulding; three siblings, Tracy (Corey Steinmen) Spaulding, Ryan (Stacy Baar) Spaulding, Larry (Stephanie Hsu) Spaulding; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by Grandma and Grandpa Peters; Grandma and Grandpa Spaulding; uncle Larry Peters, uncle Jim Spaulding, and aunt Nancy Spaulding.
Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. with the funeral service at 5 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Orth.
The family would like to thank all the bartenders from Bogart’s Tavern for making sure he made it home safely after a fun night of karaoke and the staff of the hospital during his sickness for their love and care of him.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church’s Food Pantry.
