Mr. Paul John Grabiel, age 72, of Belmont, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023 in Belmont, Michigan.

He was born on March 16, 1951 to John D. and Mary M. (Allen) Grabiel in Alpena, Michigan. He graduated from Aquinas College, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Education. Paul was a school teacher for the Kentwood School District, Cedar Springs Public Schools, Blessed Sacrament, Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Jude Catholic Schools, where he taught vocal music. He played the guitar, piano and sang with his Tenor voice. Paul owned and taught private music lessons at Grabiel Music Studio. Paul was the organist and choir director at Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Jude Catholic Churches. He also graduated from Professional Clown School. Paul was involved as a Stephen Minister at Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary Parish. Paul was a member and leader with Teens Encounter Christ. He taught Religious Education at Assumption Parish. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

Paul is survived by, daughter, Marlee (Grabiel) Risen (husband Chuck Risen), Marlee’s mother, Christine Ann Grabiel, three brothers, Don (wife-Julie), Joe (wife-Sherri), Dave (wife-Karol), four nephews, John Luke Grabiel, Andrew Grabiel, Barney Trahan-Grabiel, Michael Trahan-Grabiel, five nieces, Roberta Trahan-Grabiel, Christine Lieter, Lisa Fetter, Missty Kelly, Jessica Grabiel-Sanford. He was preceded in death by sister, Carole Grabiel.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe, Rockford, Michigan, 49341 and Friday, Sept. 8, 2023 and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Assumption B.V.M., 6393 Belmont Ave., Belmont, Michigan, 49306. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

The Mass of the Christian Burial for Paul will be offered on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, 11 a.m. at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Belmont, Michigan, with Fr. Chuck Schwartz and Fr. Lou Anderson, presiding. Interment will take place in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery – Assumption BVM.

Memorials are suggested to the Consolata Missionary Sisters, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association and Alzheimer’s Association.
