Kevin Swartzinski of Williamston, Michigan, formerly of Alcona, Michigan passed away on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023 at the age of 57. Born on July 26, 1966 in Alpena, Michigan. He was the beloved son of Arthur and Carol (Domke) Swartzinski. Kevin’s journey began in the charming town of Alpena, Michigan, and he was raised in Spruce, Michigan, where he embraced the farming heritage that had been passed down through three generations of his family.
Kevin attended Alcona High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1984. During his time at Alcona, he was an active participant in the Future Farmers of America, highlighting his passion for agriculture and a strong connection to the land.
Possessing a creative and innovative mind, Kevin was a natural problem solver and a dedicated doer. He channeled his talents into a career as a tradesman machinist in the Alpena and Alcona areas. His hands-on skills and meticulous attention to detail made him an invaluable asset. Kevin’s fascination with tinkering and fixing things was evident in his previous role at Petroleum Development Corporation, where he served as a pumper and well tender with his partner and pumper of the year in 2004, Gypsy. He found purpose in maintaining and repairing equipment, ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
The journey of Kevin’s life led him to Williamston, Michigan. His dedication to his work never wavered, and he found a new home at Petronas Industries, serving as a dedicated tool maker.
Kevin’s spirit of service extended beyond his professional life. He was an active member of the Williamston Lions Club and was honored with the Lion of the Year award in 2009-2010 for his outstanding contributions to the community. He had a green thumb and took immense pride in gardening, a passion that once yielded a remarkable 115-pound pumpkin.
Kevin Swartzinski leaves behind a legacy of hard work, ingenuity, and a commitment to making the world a better place. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Preceding him in death were his father, Arthur. Surviving is his wife of 31 years, Renee Jent; mother, Carol (Walt Todd) Kennedy; brother, Neil (Tyra) Swartzinski; Godparents, Lorna and Norm Souva; many nieces and nephews and his dogs, Abbie and Scout.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 at Skinner Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service for visitation. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Alcona FFA, the Alcona Humane Society, or, the MacKenzies Animal Sanctuary in Kevin’s name.
