EUGENE AUSTIN GREFE

Eugene Austin Grefe, 71, of Herron passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.

Eugene was born in Alpena on Aug. 14, 1952, to the late Eugene and Margaret (Smith) Grefe. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Upon returning he worked for the State of Michigan at Phelps Collins Air National Base for 39 years, retiring in 2010. Gene married Janine Beaulieu on Aug. 2, 1975. He enjoyed motorcycling, boating, skiing, and socializing with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Janine; two children, Mike Gagnon, Jamie Grefe; four grandchildren, Alexandra, Ada May, Primo, Rainer; two great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Layne; and sister-in-law, Karen (Harry) Clark.

Memorial visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorials service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Shipman officiating.
