Donald Edward Jones was born on July 11, 1936, in Alpena to the late John and Nora (Newhouse) Jones, passed away Sept. 25, 2023 with his loving daughter Jennifer at his side.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, known for his gentle nature, kind heart, and handy skills. Don was the cherished patriarch of a large and loving family. He was predeceased by his wife, Gailyn, who passed away on December 1, 2021. His love for her was evident in every aspect of their life together, from their marriage on November 7, 1959, at St. Paul Lutheran Church to their shared joy in raising their children. He was also a proud grandfather to Page (Shayne) Lancewicz, Donald Urban (Chelsea Szatkowski), Kassy Urban (Joe VonFintel), Preston Urban (Lindsey Randall), Nikolas Jones, Douglas Gauthier, and Abbi Gauthier. His great-grandchildren Jadon, Greyson, Scarlett, Nellie, Kyson, Myles, Sophia, and Paxton brought him immense joy. Paxton preceded him. Don is also survived by his sister, Geraldine Kosht, and many nieces and nephews, who will miss him greatly.
Don spent many years working for the Presque Isle Corporation before retiring. Don was a man of many interests, with a particular love for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, finding tranquility and joy in nature. He also had a knack for building outdoor furniture, a hobby that combined his love for the outdoors with his handy skills.
Don was preceded in death by his siblings, Leonore Cushman, Marguerite Provonche, and Gerald Jones.
