RUDOLPH FREDERICK BAUER

Rudolph Frederick Bauer, 92, of Alpena passed away Friday, July 7, 2023.

Rudy was born in Saginaw on Oct. 6, 1930, to the late Frederick and Ottilie (Wagner) Bauer. In 1950, following trade/high school and an apprenticeship at Saginaw Glass Company, he moved to Alpena and started Alpena Glass Company. He retired in 1995. On June 28, 1952, he married Marylin Lacomb. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and during the Korean War he was drafted into the United States Army; he served as military policeman.

He was a member of All Saints Parish and the Knights of Columbus and its Fourth Degree. He bicycled with the ROMEO club, and he was involved with the Tea Party of Alpena. Rudy loved history and was an avid stamp and coin collector. He was interested in the contributions of George Mason in forming the US Constitution. In 1981 Rudy successfully made a case for the USPS to commemorate Mason on an 18-cent stamp.

Rudy enjoyed time at his camp and was diligent in maintaining and improving the habitat. He took pleasure in gardening and was a tree farmer, but an enemy of the invasive autumn olive bush.

Rudy was honest and lived by the golden rule. He valued his family and friends. He loved to dance and listen to polka music.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Marylin; five children, Diane Bauer, Deborah Bauer, David (Jill) Bauer, Daniel (Michelle) Bauer, Denise (Al Kuchnicki) Bauer; seven grandchildren, Trevor (Justina) Crow, Ryan (Hollie) Crow, Hope (Jon Straley) Bauer, Eric (fiancee LeAnn Howe) Bauer, Rebecca Bauer, Bella Bauer, Jack Bauer; 12 great-grandchildren, Morgan, Zoe, Rowen, Avander, Dominic, Daylin, Aleksander, Charlie, Murphy, Cooper, Desmond, and Abigail.

Mr. Bauer was preceded in death by granddaughter, Lena Bauer and a sister, Dorothy Danielson.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with military honors at 5 p.m. by VFW Alpena Post 2496 and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tylor Bischoff officiating.
