GERALD (JERRY) NEWHOUSE

Gerald (Jerry) Newhouse passed away peacefully at the Avalon of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan on July 15, 2023, after a long struggle with vascular dementia. He was 82.

Jerry was born in Alpena, Michigan to the late Clarence and Frances (Raniszewski) Newhouse on Nov. 27, 1940. He graduated from Alpena High School, attended Alpena Community College, and graduated from the Detroit Barber College when he was 20 years old. Being a talker, Jerry loved being a barber for over 60 years and always made a point to learn one new thing from every customer.

He served as the Michigan 11th Congressional District Representative for both Congressman Phil Ruppe and Congressman Bob Davis. Jerry was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. He liked to help people any way he could and volunteered his time as a member of several service organizations in Alpena including Knights of Columbus, Salvation Army, Exchange Club, and others.

Jerry is survived by his wife Kathy of 53 years of marriage, daughter Kristyn (Paul Wills), son, Kevin (Kelly McConahy) and six grandchildren, Nikolas, Ellyana, and Jayson Wills and Grace, Charlotte and Henry Newhouse.

He was preceded in death by his sister Joyce, brother Clarence, niece Mary, and nephews Rick and Stephen Moreau.

Memorial visitation will take place Monday July 24, 2023, at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
