QUENTIN PUAL HARTMAN
Quentin Paul Hartman, (AKA Trouble, Quincy, Big Q, Chummy, Quarter Man, Limpin’ Beaver and Grandpa Sass), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was called home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2023, at the age of 80. Born on June 30, 1942, in Bay City, Quentin was a ray of sunshine in the lives of everyone who knew him. He was a loving, faith-filled, and selfless man who dedicated his life to his family, community, and the service of others.
Quentin was the cherished son of the late Ervin and Clara “Betty” (Richards) Hartman, and the proud brother of Kay (Terry) Stoppa, Carolyn (Richard) Maron, Gwen Gerlofs, and the late Ivan Hartman. Quentin leaves behind a beautiful legacy in his loving children: Beth (Randy) Laundre, Kim (Gary) Erickson, Lynn (Ken) Hartman, Ericka (Tim) Benson, and Brett Lyszak. Quentin’s love and kindness will live on through his grandchildren: Matt (Ayesha) Erickson, Bryce Erickson, Autumn Michaelson, Micah Benson, Daniel Benson, and his great-grandchildren: Chloe Michaelson, Levi Michaelson, Charlotte Michaelson, and Linkoln Michaelson. Quentin was preceded in death by his grandson Drew Erickson, and brother-in-law John Gerlofs.
A proud graduate of Alpena High School in 1960, Quentin went on to have a successful career as a Millwright at Abitibi for almost 40 years before retiring in 1999. Quentin’s strong work ethic and dedication to his craft were admirable, and he will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his profession. On Sept. 7, 1985 he married Brenda (Popp) Lyszak. Throughout his life, Quentin was a man of many passions and interests. As a youth, he was actively involved in the Boy Scouts, and continued his service as a leader for 40 years. Quentin was a proud member of the Order of the Arrow and was honored with the District Award of Merit in 1992 and the Silver Beaver Award in 1999. Quentin’s love for guiding and mentoring the youth of his community extended beyond scouting. He was active with local church youth groups such as AWANA, Sea Explorers, the Royal Rangers, and Powerhouse, and served as a 4-H leader for several years.
Quentin’s faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he joyfully served in various ministries throughout the years. He was a Lay Minister at Immanuel Lutheran Church, participated in Marriage Encounter, Center Shot Archery, Men’s Fraternity, and was an IFOC Chaplain since 2007. Quentin’s dedication to his faith and his love for others was evident in all that he did.
In addition to his service in the church and community, Quentin was a member of the Christian Bowhunters Club, Antique Car Club, Ramblin Rods Car Club, and Alcona CERT. Quentin’s enthusiasm for life and his willingness to give of his time and talents were truly inspiring. Quentin Hartman was a man who embodied the spirit of love, faith, and selflessness. He was a beacon of light in the lives of his family, friends, and community, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. As we gather to celebrate his life and say our final farewells, let us remember the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Quentin, you have indeed fought the good fight, and now you rest in the arms of our loving Savior. Quentin is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at the Alpena Free Methodist Church from 10am until the time of the service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rich George officiating.
