JAMES (JIM) ADAMS

James (Jim) Adams, 76, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at home with his loved ones by his side after battling Alzheimer’s.

Jim was born May 7, 1947, in Augusta, Georgia to the late Jim and Virginia (Swedenburg) Adams. The family moved to the Detroit, Michigan area from Georgia when Jim was a young boy and eventually ended up in Southfield, Michigan where Jim met his high school sweetheart and the love of his life Deborah Quirouet. They were married on Feb. 28, 1970. Shortly after the wedding Jim was drafted serving in Vietnam 1970/1971. Upon his discharge he worked for The Department of Social Services in Wayne County, Michigan prior to accepting the supervisory position in Alpena. Jim received his associate degree in social work from Wayne State University in Detroit while working full time and raising a family.

His hobbies were fishing, bowling, and golf. He was a member of the men’s association and Ding-A-Lings at the Alpena Golf Course as well as a member of the men’s bowling league at Thunderbowl Lanes. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Alpena Post 2496. His greatest pride and joy, however, were his family.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Deborah of 53 years, son James (Jenn) Adams of Poway, California; daughter, Catherine (Adams) Mansueti of Grand Blanc, Michigan; granddaughters, Jamie Straley, Kellie Straley; grandsons Sheamus Adams, Bobbie Mansueti, Illinois; great grandchildren Athena and Atticus; nephew Chris Yombor of New Jersey; sisters-in-law Betty (Malcolm) Ramsay, Bonnie Quirouet, Wilma (Jim) Wells; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his sister, Barbara Yombor; brother-in-law, Bob Yombor; nephew Michael Yombor; mother-in-law Ruth Richardson; sister-in-law Lillian Carpenter; brother-in-law George Richardson; and nephew Alex Ramsay.

We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Pam Gohlke for ALL her love and support throughout the difficult times as well as Hospice Compassus of Alpena for the wonderful care they provided to Jim and our family members. Jim will be missed deeply by ALL who Love him.

Per Jim’s wishes he has been taken for cremation being handled by Bannan Funeral Home. A private Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice Compassus.
