Gerald Henry Weis, known to friends and family as Jerry, passed away on June 11, 2023, in Sanborn Township, Michigan. Born on Feb. 6, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, Jerry was the son of the late Henry and Elise (Werner) Weis. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; his two children, Henry (Shelly) Weis of Holly, Michigan, and Maxwell (Patty) Weis of Clearwater, Florida; his sister, Dolores Weis of Indianapolis, Indiana; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was also fortunate to have developed a strong bond with his special friends, Pat and Gill VanWagoner and Eric Lawson. Jerry was a lifelong learner, which was evident in his education. He earned three different degrees in Geology, Applied Science, and General Science. His passion for learning translated into his work as a machine operator for General Motors, where he consistently sought to improve his skills and contribute to the company’s success. Outside of work, Jerry’s interests were diverse and reflected his kind and gentle nature. As a writer, he enjoyed sharing his thoughts and experiences with others, often drawing inspiration from his love of gardening and woodworking. He also found solace in painting, creating beautiful pieces that showcased his talent and attention to detail. Jerry was a firm believer of God and was proud of his faith. Jerry was knowledgeable about firearms and enjoyed discussing them with others who shared his interest. He also had a keen eye for rocks, building an impressive collection throughout his life. Jerry’s love for animals was evident in the three cats that he adored: Killer, Pumkin (who was his baby), and Molly. Jerry will be remembered as a handy, kind, and gentle man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His warm smile and genuine concern for others made him a cherished friend and family member to all who knew him.
Per his wishes Jerry has been taken for cremation with arrangements handled by McWilliams Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held for him at a later date. Register for online condolences at mcwilliamsfh.com and donations can be made to family or Friends Together.
