DONALD JOHN LEWIS

Nov. 22, 1949 – June 14, 2023

Donald John Lewis, affectionately known as Don, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023, in Lachine. Born on Nov. 22, 1949, in Alpena he was the son of the late George and Louise (Kaiser) Lewis. Don was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his children, Dee Ann Irby and Dawn (Greg) Jones; his grandchildren, Harold (Tre’) Irby, Jayden, Aubrey, and Gunner Jones; his longtime companion, Dawn Neuman; his sister, Louann Jerome; his brother, George (Faye) Lewis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, David Lewis (March 1974), his sister, Liz Cordes, and his brother, Ken Lewis.

Don owned and operated a successful trucking and excavating company in the metro Detroit area for 30-plus years. He was a dedicated professional who took pride in his work and placed a high value on building business connections and relationships.

A true outdoorsman, Don was most at home when he was surrounded by nature. He enjoyed spending time at the hunting camp, where he would play guitar and sing with his friends and family. His love for music extended to the dance floor, where he was known to polka dance with his nieces, much to their delight. Don’s dog, Grizz, was truly man’s best friend, accompanying him on countless adventures and providing unwavering companionship.

Don was a loving and gentle soul, always ready to lend a hand or offer a kind word. His friendly demeanor and warm smile made him approachable and welcoming to all who crossed his path. He was a pillar of strength for his family and friends, offering support and guidance through life’s many challenges.

A memorial visitation will take place at McWilliams Funeral Home on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 2 p.m. until the time of prayer service at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be registered at mcwilliamsfh.com.
