JOHN HERBERT HERING

John Herbert Hering was born in Detroit on Jan. 21, 1934, to the late Herbert and Florence (Howard) Hering. He served in the United States Air Force and retired from ABTCO in 1996. John was an active member of First Assembly of God – Alpena and enjoyed sailing on Hubbard Lake on his sailboat “Amazing Grace”.

Surviving are his wife Shirley; eight children, Fred (Karen) Hering, Nick (Vanessa) Hering, Robert (Stacey) Mason, Randy (Amy) Mason, Tammy (Eric) North, Melissa (Dan) McCallum, Sue Ann (Ed) Schmitz, Judy (Randy) Hompstead; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; special friend, Richard Schmidt; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hering was preceded in death by; two children, Anthony Hering, Sandra Hering; grandson, Nicholas Hering; three siblings, Robert Hering, June Mixsell and Irene Snyder.

Memorial visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at First Assembly of God – Alpena from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Kerry Clark officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Bannan Funeral Home.
