CHARON MARLENE MASSEY

Charon Marlene Massey, a loving, kind, and thoughtful woman, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2023, in Alpena, Michigan. Born on June 18, 1952, in Sacramento, California, Charon was the daughter of the late Jim and Jean (Koziel) Hawley.

Charon was known for her ability to light up a room with her presence, always attentive to those around her. She enjoyed a good conversation, often sharing her love for reading and learning with others. Charon was a compassionate and caring woman who dedicated her life to her family and her work as a CPS agent for the state of Michigan.

Family was the cornerstone of Charon’s life, and she cherished spending time with her loved ones. She is survived by her children, Jason (Kim) Hasse, Marlena (Armando) Soto, Alex Massey, and Anna Massey, as well as her grandchildren, Kayla and Blake Patterson, Myra, Nathan, and Amelia Hasse. Charon was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey, with whom she shared a beautiful and loving marriage.

Throughout her life, Charon was a dedicated and passionate worker. As a CPS agent, she was committed to the well-being of children and families in her community. In her free time, Charon could often be found with her nose in a book or engaging in thoughtful conversations with friends and family. Her love for reading and learning was infectious, and she was always eager to share her knowledge with others. Charon’s ability to listen and empathize made her a beloved confidante to many, as she offered a safe space for those who needed a shoulder to lean on or a listening ear.

As a mother, Charon was the epitome of love and support. She instilled in her children the values of kindness, compassion, and resilience, encouraging them to follow their dreams and face life’s challenges with grace and determination. Her unwavering love and devotion to her family were evident in every aspect of her life, from the time she spent with her children and grandchildren to the countless memories they created together. Charon’s grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she took great joy in watching them grow and thrive. Her love for her family extended beyond her immediate circle, as she welcomed friends and loved ones into her home with open arms. Charon’s warmth and generosity knew no bounds, and she will be remembered for her selflessness and her ability to make others feel loved and valued.

In the words of famed author Maya Angelou, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Charon’s legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the love she shared with her family and friends. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering love will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life she led and the love she shared with those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Charon has been taken for cremation with no services planned at this time. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
