SUZANNE F. OLSEN

Naples, Fla. — Suzanne Frances Olsen passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, March 18, 2023, surrounded by close loved ones after a years-long battle with congestive heart failure and Alzheimer’s dementia. Suzanne was 80 years old.

Suzanne was born Sept. 7, 1942, in Alpena, Michigan. She married Naval officer Harvey E Olsen Jr. and the two spent their time together growing their family and traveling on several overseas tours of duty before settling down in Ledyard. After Harvey’s passing in 1979, Suzanne remained in Connecticut with their five children. Her home was almost always occupied by various pets as well with her children bringing home the standard cats and dogs, but also hamsters, and at one point a rooster named Eileen.

In 1992, Suzanne met Roland and the two have been at each other’s sides ever since. The pair have traveled to places like Alaska, China, and France as they dedicated time each year to see the world. Suzanne and Roland were snowbirds to Florida each year for over a decade before finally settling permanently in Naples in 2012.

She is survived by her partner of 31 years, Roland Roy; their dog, Molly; her children, Ann Margaret, Paul, Brenda, Timothy, Cynthia, Kimberly, Allison, and Mark. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey; her son Christopher; and granddaughter Amanda. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren, Rylie, Everly, Megan, Matthew, Anthony, Geovante, Amber, Destiny, Cameron, Makaylie, Angelina, Brandon, Jersey, Elizabeth, Christina, and Carrie; as well as several great-grandchildren.

Suzanne’s wishes were that there would be no funeral or memorial service, and that we instead remember her by gathering with family to discuss her memory and celebrate her life.

We would like to extend a special thanks to Avow Hospice services who treated Suzanne and our family with the utmost care and respect during her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Avow or another local hospice service.
