RUTH MAEDEAN ROSSEN
Ruth Maedean Rossen, 88, of Hubbard Lake, a loving, faith-filled, and selfless woman, passed away on April 12, 2023, in Alpena, Michigan. Born on June 6, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, Ruth was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Ila (Adams) Wicks.
Ruth is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 69 years, Peter “Guy” Rossen, whom she married on Oct. 9, 1954. She was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Sherry Hahn and Cindy (Kevin) Laur, and a proud grandmother to her eight grandchildren, Jason (Julie) Hahn, Jeremy (Sarah) Hahn, Stephanie “Ruthann” Anderson, Joseph (Amy) Adams, Jacob (Crystal) Adams, Alexander (Lensay) Dewar, Joshua (Alexis) Dewar, and Shelby (Cody) Dewar. Ruth’s love and guidance will live on through her 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Lloyd “Bud” Wicks, and son-in-law, Tim Hahn. Ruth graduated from high school and went on to put her heart and soul into her role as a homemaker. She absolutely loved taking care of her family and home, and her dedication to both was evident in everything she did. Ruth was also an active member of her community and church, where she served as a junior church leader, guiding and nurturing the next generation of believers.
Throughout her life, Ruth cultivated a variety of interests and hobbies that brought joy to both herself and those around her. She was a talented ceramics artist and had a passion for creating beautiful porcelain dolls. Ruth’s keen eye for design and love of interior decorating made her home a warm and inviting space for family and friends to gather. She also enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, and her grandchildren fondly recall her as their “lead foot” hot rod enthusiast.
Ruth was a huge Coca-Cola collector and took great pride in her extensive assortment of memorabilia. Her collection was a testament to her love for the iconic brand and her appreciation for the history and nostalgia it represented. Ruth’s unique interests and passions were a constant source of inspiration and conversation for her family and friends, and they will be dearly missed.
Ruth’s unwavering faith and devotion to her family were the cornerstones of her life. She was a loving and selfless woman who always put the needs of others before her own. Her strength and resilience were an inspiration to all who knew her, and her legacy of love will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
Ruth’s grandchildren fondly remember her wielding the “wooden spoon” as a playful yet firm reminder of her expectations for their behavior. All her grandsons “survived the wooden spoon,” a testament to Ruth’s loving discipline and the respect she commanded from her family. Her warmth, humor, and wisdom will be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Ruth’s loving presence will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. As they mourn her passing, they will also celebrate the remarkable life she lived and the countless memories they shared. Ruth’s unwavering faith, love, and selflessness will continue to inspire and guide her family for generations to come.
Ruth is at McWilliams Funeral Home where family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 p.m. with Pastor Mike Wigle officiating. Interment: Pleasant View Cemetery.
