Mary Ann Schaedig

Mary Ann Schaedig, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2023, in Ossineke, Michigan.

Born on Oct. 25, 1939, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Mary was the cherished daughter of the late Donald and Violet (McDonald) Havel. Known for her generous and thoughtful nature, Mary was a true matriarch who always put her family first and maintained a positive attitude throughout her life.

On July 25, 1959, Mary married the love of her life, Leroy Schaedig, who preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 2022. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, raising three children: Cathy (Roger) Weise, William “Bill” (Tammy) Schaedig, and Kurt (Sherry) Schaedig. Mary’s love extended to her two brothers-in-law, Edgar “Fox” (Janet) Schaedig and Larry Schaedig, and her two sisters-in-law, Pam Schaedig and Xenia Haver. Mary was also blessed with nine grandchildren: Jordon (Victoria) Weise, Jenna Weise, Tyler (Tracie) Schaedig, Dalton (Carlee Sauls) Schaedig, Leah Schaedig, James (Lindsey) Schaedig, Daniel Schaedig, Griffin Schaedig, and Gerianna (Austin) Lake. Her love and legacy continued to grow with the addition of ten great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Grayson Schaedig, her brother, Richard Havel, and her two sisters-in-law, Sally and Diane Schaedig.

Mary’s strong work ethic and dedication to her community were evident throughout her life. She worked at McDonald’s for 25 years, where she formed lasting friendships and touched the lives of countless customers with her warm smile and kind spirit. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including bowling, sewing, knitting, and camping. She also shared her talents and time with several organizations, including the German Club, where she and Leroy were past King and Queen. Mary was an active member of the ladies auxiliary at Alpena General, and she found spiritual solace and fellowship at Immanuel Lutheran Church. As a true matriarch, Mary was always there for her family, offering love, support, and guidance. Her positive attitude and unwavering faith helped her navigate the challenges of life, and her generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Mary’s memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones, as they cherish the countless moments of joy and laughter they shared with her.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in Mary’s honor. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 8, 2023 with visiting hours beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 p.m. with the Rev.
