JOEL ROY MARCINIAK
Joel Roy Marciniak, 77, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2023, in Ossineke. He was born on June 21, 1945, in Alpena, to the late Roy and Helen (McNeil) Marciniak. He was also preceded by his sister Andria Snavley. Joel is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carole, whom he married on July 17, 1965. Together, they raised three beautiful daughters, Joette (John) Putkamer, Anissa (Michael) Kindt, and Shannen (Jennifer Noffze) Marciniak.
Joel was a devoted brother to his four siblings, Linda (Gerald) Yankie, Jere (Patricia) Marciniak, Steve (Jacina) Marciniak, Lisa (Tom) Glazier, and his brother-in-law, Dave Snavley. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, Jareth (Chelsea) Putkamer, Joellen (Casey) Wallen, Taylor (Josh) Bromund, Ellie Kindt (Dylan Hoes), Cassie (Tyler) Green, and Courtney (Alex) Gould. Joel also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, Brinn, Jameson, Dawson, Jace, Remy, and Waylan, as well as many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. Joel was an exceptional student, earning his Master’s degree and dedicating his life to education. He was a beloved teacher at Alpena High School for 29 years, where he influenced the lives of countless students. In addition to his teaching career, Joel owned and operated Jomar Services for over 40 years, providing invaluable services to the community.
A man of many talents and interests, Joel’s first and foremost passion was his family. He cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joel was a skilled woodworker, potter, and artist, creating beautiful pieces of artwork and photography that his family will treasure for years to come. He also found joy in playing music and was an accomplished musician.
Joel was an avid sports enthusiast and dedicated supporter of the youth baseball league in his community. His love for the outdoors led him to become an enthusiastic hunter, and he was a proud member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). Joel’s creative spirit shone through in his work as an illustrator of children’s books, delighting young readers with his imaginative drawings.
A long-time member of the Ossineke Lions Club, Joel was dedicated to serving his community and helping those in need. He was also the AEA treasurer for many years, demonstrating his commitment to education and the well-being of his fellow educators. Joel’s kindness, thoughtfulness, and creativity left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Joel will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering love for his family, dedication to education, and passion for the arts will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Rest in peace, Joel, and may your memory be a blessing to all.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Joel’s life on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in care of Carole Marciniak.
