James John Miller Sr.

James John Miller Sr., affectionately known as Jim, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2023, in Alpena, Michigan, at the age of 67.

Born on April 29, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, Jim was the loving son of the late James G. Miller and Dorothy (Gilman) Miller. Jim is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Audette, with whom he shared a beautiful life. Together, they raised three wonderful sons, James Jr. (Laurie) of Alpena, Joe (Sandy) of Alpena, and Josh (Jesse) of Garden City. Jim was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren: Paige, James III (Chelssy), Kelsey, April, Jared, Savanna, Ayden, Jennifer, Jamie, and Joanna. He was also a doting great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. Jim is also survived by his dear brother, Keith Miller.

Jim graduated from high school with a strong work ethic and a determination to provide for his family. He and his wife, Audette, became an over-the-road team of drivers, traveling the country together and sharing countless memories. Jim was recognized for his dedication and excellence in his profession, receiving a five-year safe driver award. Despite facing a heart condition, he persevered and came within 60,000 miles of achieving the impressive million-mile mark. A man of many interests, Jim was an active member of the Thunder Bay Amateur Radio Club. He had a passion for the outdoors and cherished spending time with his children, teaching them valuable life skills and creating lasting memories. Jim loved jet skiing, water skiing, camping, fishing, and hunting. He was a true outdoorsman, imparting his love for nature to his sons. Jim’s gentle spirit extended to his love for animals, particularly his beloved cat, Little One, and his loyal dog, Red. He found joy and companionship in their presence and ensured they were always well cared for. Those who knew Jim will remember him as a loving, wise, and gentle man. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always put his family first. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he created with those he loved most.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held with his family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice in Jim’s memory. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff who cared for Jim during his final days, as well as the many friends and family who have offered their love and support during this difficult time. Jim will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at St. Anne Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the memorial mass at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating. A luncheon will take place immediately following.
