ELLEN BARRETT PRINCE
Ellen Barrett Prince, a longtime resident of Royal Oak, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the age of 75. A daughter of Patrick and Bernice Barrett (nee Le Barge), she was born on May 29, 1947 in Alpena. Ellen attended Catholic Central High School in Alpena before graduating from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Flint.
Ellen healed the Royal Oak community first as a nurse in medical surgery before moving to the ICU at Beaumont Hospital. When Beaumont opened its outpatient surgical center, Ellen was the first head nurse assigned to its pre-op and recovery rooms. She went on to manage other outpatient surgical units before retiring in 2012 after 44 years of service.
Warm, kind, and compassionate, Ellen was an excellent caregiver. She loved animals and flowers- especially the roses she grew in her garden. She knitted in her free time and was a talented cook. Ellen will be dearly missed by her many friends and loving family.
Loving mother of Peter. Cherished grandmother of Liam and Willow. Dear sister of Beth Curtis. Proud aunt to many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jane; brother, Jim; and brothers-in-law Terry Schefke and Tim Curtis.
