Richard J. (Rick) Bennett
Richard J. (Rick) Bennett, 68 years old, of Ossineke, Michigan, died on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, following a brief battle with cancer. Rick was graced with the presence of loving family and friends during his last weeks of life. Rick was born on July 8, 1954, in Amsterdam, New York, the youngest of six children born to Grant and Lorraine Bennett. The family moved to Ossineke in 1969 and Rick graduated from Alpena High School in 1972.
For many years, Rick was a cross-country truck driver, having driven truck in all 48 of the contiguous states. That career provided him a rich lexicon of anecdotal yarns that he would gladly share with any who listened. He also had a deep appreciation for nature and spending time at his home on Lake Huron. He enjoyed canoeing, sailing, campfires under the stars, and four-wheeling.
Rick is survived by his brothers, Chuck (Karen) Bennett and Ken (Joanne) Bennett, sister, Celia St. Charles, brother-in-law, Ray Smith (Joann Landers), as well as many nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Lorraine Bennett, brother, James S. Bennett, sister, Nancy H. Smith, brother-in-law, Neil St. Charles, and long-time, much-cherished, four-legged, companion Diamond.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held this summer. At Rick’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral arrangements. McWilliams Funeral Home is handling the final arrangements.
