Linda Ray (Moore) Lauer

Linda Ray (Moore) Lauer, age 85, passed away peacefully at Harborview Assisted Living & Hospice in DeTour Village on March 10, 2023. She was born in Clarksville, Arkansas, on Aug. 6, 1937, to John Raymond and Anna (Dickerson) Moore.

At the age of 3, Linda began her education at the Lutheran School for the Deaf in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated in 1957 from Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint. After graduation, she was employed at IBM as a keypunch operator. On April 15, 1961, she married her true love and companion, Gene Raymond Lauer. They resided in Oakland County until retirement. Thereafter, they lived in Alpena, Traverse City, Michigan, and finally DeTour village where they enjoyed the beauty of Lake Huron.

Even though her world may have seemed dark and quiet to others, being blind and deaf wasn’t a disability to Linda but rather a tool for inspiration to let others see and feel the world around them; to cherish the small details in life and to enjoy the experience no matter the difficulty.

With a grand smile and a laugh, there was always a sense of love and positivity that Linda shared with those fortunate enough to call her momma, grandma, or a friend.

Linda had a remarkable life. She was an exceptional mother and a homemaker. She loved to crochet, and she created Afghans that are cherished by many. She had a keen sense of fashion and home design despite her visual impairment. She also enjoyed traveling around the world, visiting 23 countries over her lifetime, and making many friends along the way. Her favorite indulgence were Arkansas peaches and her mother’s famous fudge cake. She had an unshakable faith and a great love for God. When she could, she read her braille bible daily. She will be dearly missed and will forever live in our hearts.

Linda is survived by her husband, Gene Lauer; daughter, Lisa (Bradley Newton) Lauer-Ritthaler of DeTour Village; grandsons, Derek (Stephanie Henao) Ritthaler and Joshua Ritthaler; great granddaughters, Scarlett and Selena; and her sister, Ann Mosher.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Moore; and brother-in-law, Fred Mosher.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held in lieu of a service.
