ARTHUR LEONARD BURNS

Arthur Leonard Burns, 86, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. He was a loving, caring, and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed dearly. Arthur was born on Feb. 4, 1937 to the late Frank and Florence (Murray) Burns in Lachine, Michigan. He was in the United States Army where he was proud to have served his country. On Sept. 10, 1960 he married the love of his life Doris (O’Neil) at Long Rapids Congregational Church in Long Rapids. They were married for nearly 50 years until she preceded him in death in 2010. He worked for the City of Alpena for many years until his retirement.

There were many things that Arthur enjoyed such as being involved with the D.A.V., playing cards, and being a musician where he performed many weekends at Maplewood Tavern, but what brought him the greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his four children, Delynn Burns, Debra (Steve) Partyka, Connie (Mike Szarenski) Burns, and Brian (Dana) Burns, Eight grandchildren, Danielle (Michael) Dubie, Bradley (Autumn) Burton, Breanna (Terry) Partyka-Lemcool, Jared (Mariah) Finch, Cole Barsen, McKenna Barsen, Braden Burns, and Aubrey Burns, Eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Laura (Joseph) Bleau, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, and nine siblings, William, Shirley Soltysziak, Francis, Floyd, Gerald, Lucille Edgar, Jim, Genevieve Blemke, and Norman Burns, and son in law Patrick Malaney.

Family will receive friends for visitation at Karpus Hunter & Ross Funeral Home on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Burial will take place at Long Rapids Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to Hospice of Michigan.
