PETER THOMAS ROZNOWSKI

Peter Thomas Roznowski, 61, passed away on Feb. 6, 2023 at MediLodge of Alpena after an extended illness.

Peter was born on Feb. 6, 1962 in Alpena to Kenneth and Leila (Habermehl) Roznowski. He was raised in Alpena and graduated in 1980 from Alpena High School. While attending Alpena High, he played football and hockey. As the Wildcats’ goalie, Peter excelled at shutting out opponents and was the subject of many Alpena News sports articles. His dedication and hard work for his team earned him the Most Valuable Player award for the 1978-79 season from his coach, Tony Byers. It also garnered him recognition from The Detroit News, who named him to their All State Hockey Team roster as goalie for 1979. This love of sports transcended Peter’s life, as he practiced martial arts (had a black belt in Taekwondo), played soccer, and was an avid fan of Michigan football, the Red Wings, Lions and the Detroit Tigers.

After graduation, Peter attended Alpena Community College and Ferris State University, where he earned a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice. After working for the state of Michigan for several years, he returned to Alpena, eventually working for NE Michigan Community Mental Health.

Peter was a kind-hearted, giving, and caring person who will be dearly missed by friends and family, including his siblings: Jane Aubrey, Steven Roznowski, Diane (Steve) Gusler, Karen Roznowski, sister-in-law, Barbara Roznowski, and brother-in-law, David Dey. Peter didn’t have any children and so he enjoyed spending time with and keeping tabs on his nieces and nephew: Kendra (Tony) Aubrey Smith, Ashleigh Aubrey, Brit (Jevin) Barnett, Cassandra Roznowski, Todd Gusler, Kristi (Drew) Olsen and Brooke (Stefan) Beck, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Brian Roznowski, sister, Sharon Dey, brother-in-law, Ray Aubrey, and sister-in-law, Cathy Roznowski.

Since Alpena High School hockey had such an impact on Peter, his family wishes that any memorial donations be directed to the Alpena High School Hockey Program.

A memorial honoring Peter’s life and accomplishments is planned for a later date. Karpus Hunter & Ross Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be registered at karpushuntercares.com
