LEONARDA MARIE CHARRON BRUN-QUINTEL
Leonarda Marie Charron-Brun-Quintel was born in 1922 Leon and Mabel (Cosslan) Charron. After Mabel was tragically killed in an accident, Leonarda was adopted by her uncle/Armedes Charron, and his wife, Mary.
Leonarda graduated from St. Anne’s in Alpena in 1939 and attended Saginaw Business College. In the early years, she worked in Flint as a secretary for Buick and DuPont. “Lee” was a cub scout den mother and owned Beachcomber Resort in Ossineke for nine years. She was a motor route driver for the Alpena News for 26 years and a librarian at Alpena County Library for 23 years. She retired at age 79.
Lee enjoyed bowling, bonfires, winter sports, deer hunting, fishing, playing the ukulele, reading, bingo and spontaneous road trips to a variety of destinations. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was ambitious at making Halloween costumes, and three of her children were once disqualified from a contest because her “Three Bears” costumes were too professional.
She is survived by daughters Michelle (Glenn) McCabe, Yvonne (Wayne) Swager-Kendziorski and sons Michael (Barb) Brun, Gary (Patty) Quintel and Mark Quintel as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands Marcel Brun and Gerald Quintel as well as sisters, Norma (John) Lemmonier and Thelma (Bill) Glaske, and brother, Robert Wise.
Lee’s children consider themselves lucky to have had her in their lives for so long. She instilled in them the value of a good work ethic in conjunction with the importance of enjoying time away from work. Her smile and quick wit will be missed by those who knew her and by the family fortunate to have had her as a role model.
