EUGENE KORTE

He was born on April 4, 1927 in Leola, South Dakota. Eugene served in the U.S. Navy for three years before meeting Audrey Dalbec whom he would marry on Sept. 18, 1948 in Walmatosa, Wisconsin. The two of them then moved to Port Huron, Michigan. Eugene went to work at the Port Huron Sulphite and Paper Co. for four years before landing at Grand Trunk Railroad where he would retire in 1988 after 36 years. He and Audrey loved to travel, dance, and socialize with many friends. Eugene also enjoyed playing golf and helping others. Eugene was a member of the American Legion, and St. Mary Catholic Church of Alpena.

He is survived by two daughters; Sharon (Richard) Fawcett, and Katherine Korte, three grandchildren; Yvonne (David) Denslow, Marc Fawcett, Alisha (Cory) Allen, and four great-grandchildren; Ethan and Alex Denslow, and Madison and Colin Allen. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Audrey.

A celebration of Eugene’s life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home.
