MATTHEW MICHAEL HAGAMAN

Matthew Michael Hagaman, age 49, passed away at his residence unexpectedly following a brief illness on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022. He was born on April 12, 1973 in Bay City and graduated from Essexville Garber High School in 1991. Matt attended Delta College for a year before he embarked on his true calling, to serve in the military. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and served for over nine years, being honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Matt then joined the Air National Guard, serving with the 127th Wing at Selfridge for six years. His duty sent him to every part of the world and gave him many experiences and lifelong friends. Matt has since worked for several years for the State of Michigan. He was currently the Veterans Career Advisor at the Michigan Department of Talent and Economic Development in Alpena where he has resided for the last five years. Always one to help his fellow veterans, Matt was currently the Commandant of the Marine Corps League, Alpena Detachment 1327 and was a member of the Honor Guard with the Alpena VFW Post 2496. He was also a member of Bay City AMVETS Post 22, Bay City P.L.A.V. Post 162, and The Military Order of the Devil Dogs, Flint Dawgs. Matt was an avid gun collector and animal protector, he will be greatly missed by his dog, Lois.

Matt is survived by his mother, Judy A. (Gillisse) Hagaman of Essexville; his brother, Fredrick C. (Jodi) Hagaman of Bay City; his aunt and uncles, Dave (Steph) Hagaman, Bill Klein, Ken Gillisse and Rocky Gillisse; and many cousins, special friends in Alpena and Bay City, and military friends nationwide. Matt was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick E. ‘Butch’ Hagaman in March of this year.

The Funeral Service will take place at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022 at Trahan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Campbell presiding followed by Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Bay County Veterans Council. Private interment will be at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday after 11 a.m. On Wednesday there will be a P.L.A.V.
