WILMA F. HILBERG

She was born on Nov. 6, 1930, in Caspian, Michigan, the daughter of the late Peter and Genevieve (Shu-bat) Kruzich. She attended the Caspian and Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the class of 1948. Wilma attended the Iron River Business School and worked several years at Phoenix Lumber and the Iron River National Bank, Underwriters.

Wilma married Clifford ‘Jake’ Hilberg on Sept. 2, 1950, at St. Mary’s Rectory in Gaastra. The couple were lifelong residents, living in Iron River and many years at Camp Filbert Roth on Golden Lake. They celebrated their 59th anniversary in 2009. Jake preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 2009.

Wilma was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River and the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 69 of Caspian. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, going to the casino, sewing, knitting, and baking. Being with her family was Wilma’s biggest priority.

Wilma is survived by her son, Thomas (Lisa) Hilberg of Alpena, Michigan; daughter, Janet (Tim) McCann of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Derrick (Ashley) Hilberg, Christina McCann, and Matthew McCann; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Bradyn; step great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Alexis; nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Barbara; grandson, Bradley Thomas Hilberg; brother, Ernest Kruzich; infant brother, Peter Kruzich; sister, Vera (Gale) Otis and dear friend, Donna Spencer.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A Liturgy of the Word service will follow at 11:15 a.m. with the Rev. Jose Cherian to officiate.

Memorials can be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Vincent de Paul.

Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
