WILLARD KEITH RATHJEN SR
Willard Keith Rathjen Sr., 94, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022 at Sally’s Care Home. He was a kind, caring, and compassionate father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Willard was born on May 18, 1928 to the late Albert and Alvena (Schiesser) in Nichols, Iowa. When Willard was 20 he entered the United States Air Force where he served his country for many years, including two years in Vietnam, until his retirement in 1968.
There were many things in life that Willard enjoyed such as hunting, fishing, and reading but what brought him the most joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his five children, Valerie Fuhrman of Alpena, Kim (Greg) Timmerick, Betty Ann (Charlie) Streeter of Mikado, Willard K. Rathjen Jr. of South Carolina, and Keith Glen Rathjen, of Iowa., nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews including Chuck and Dottie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, a grandson, Robert Brown, and son in law, William Fuhrman.
Willard has been taken for cremation from Karpus Hunter & Ross Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place in Iowa. Online condolences may be registered at karpushuntercares.com.
