SIDNEY WILFRED COWLING

Sidney Wilfred Cowling, 80, of Alpena passed away Saturday Nov. 5, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in the upper peninsula of Michigan on July 16, 1942 to the late William and Emily (Scott) Cowling. He lived most of his life in the Lower Peninsula with family. He graduated from DeVry Technical School in Illinois and worked at the Ford Motor Company as a tool and die specialist until his retirement. Sid enjoyed working the New York Times crossword puzzles in ink, playing euchre with friends and family, woodworking, motorcycles, and listening to old music. He was a member of the Alpena Masons, the NRA, the Eagles Club, and the Moose Lodge of Alpena.

He is survived by his daughter Rhonda Fleishans (Tom), grandchildren Aleisha Roznowski (Greg), Klye Markland, Kali Cowling, Shaina New, and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Marilyn (Richard) Cardno and Patricia Chamberlain of Huntsville, Alabama along with many nieces and nephews.

Sid was preceded by his son Douglas Cowling, parents William Cowling Sr. and Emily Cowling (Scott), brother William Cowling Jr., and sister Beatrice Jouppi.

Sid was a very caring and compassionate man and will be greatly missed by many. Special thanks are given to his friends and caregivers Karen Fee, Darcy Donajkowski, and Steve Piper, along with the Hospice of Michigan (Kelly Webb and Brenda Yack).

A Celebration of Life will take place at Joe’s Bar in Alpena on Saturday Nov. 12, 2022, 12-3 p.m. Burial will be at Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by McWilliams Funeral Home.
